Dear Families,
In honor of March is Reading Month, we will be celebrating reading the next few weeks before Spring Break. On top of random, daily Drop Everything and Read, Fridays will contain special reading events.
Next Friday, March 3rd, we will allow technological devices in school for a Read-A-Thon. Please note that cell phones will not be allowed, however any other device with access to digital books will be. If you do not have technology that your child can bring in or you do not want them to bring technology in, they can bring books, magazines, or other appropriate material from home. They may also share technology here at the school.
Friday, March 10th will be Dress Like your Favorite Book Character Day. I am looking forward to seeing how creative students can get with this and I already have a good idea in mind for myself! ☺
Friday, March 17th we will all take our “Hats off” to reading by wearing our favorite hats to school.
Thursday, March 23rd will be our culminating celebration with a school-wide Flashlight Read. Students are invited to bring their favorite book, a flashlight, and read anywhere in the school with students in different classrooms with the lights off. We will have the gym open and hallways/classrooms will be chaperoned accordingly.
Finally, I would like to invite you to come into our classroom as a special Guest Reader. Our class would LOVE to have you come in and read a book aloud. This could be a book you have at home, or a book we have in our classroom. The read aloud should take around 15-20 minutes and would need to be in the month of March. If this is something you are interested in, please contact me so we can set up a time and day!
I hope your child has the chance to participate in these events; it is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of fostering a love of reading! Remember that their is no school on Friday, March 24th and the following week of March 27-March 31rd is Spring Break.
Smiles,
Mrs. Raymond
